Hello everyone,
I am hoping someone can direct me to something that can help answer the question which is:
How can one deny him/herself within the Coptic Orthodox …
That's another good example - I agree with you Ophadece... the tune is different.
However, here are a few hymns where the melody remains the same and does not change from Coptic to Arabic (when sung):
a) Tiatsoleb
b) Ten-o-osht emefiot nem epshi…
Italian in the tasbeha sounds great. Its the only language that works other than Coptic.
Having said that, I don't know why you would want to do the verses of the cymbals in English - the words are very straight forward to understand.
I have hea…

That is probably mirroring what used to happen in Egypt (or maybe still is). My answer: stick to Coptic hymns and teach people to love them and understand them. Difficult ye…

Dear Zoxsasi,
I disagree. I may presume that Anba Angelos meant singing Catholic sings in things like prayer meetings, and youth meetings, which is something I am against al…
Ophadece,
I'm just posing the question: what is wrong (in your mind) with us adopting Catholic songs? I had a chat with Anba Angaelos about this... he uses them a lot in prayer meetings.
I'm not suggesting this as the ultimate solution. I would sa…
I fail to understand what is wrong with just adopting Catholic hymns as a solution of this.
Not every hymn they have is heretical.
Why does that bother you Ophadece? The catholic hymns are written with the Occidental Scales and they are quite nic…
Hey! Ophadece!
OK.. i understood your point, and yes there is a problem when translating hymns and not translating the melody with it - agreed.. but don't use my name as an excuse to raise this topic.
I'm all for praying with understanding. You kn…

I am officially separating myself from the COC because of the fact it refuses to use a language that is universal so that converts can understand. I should not have to compla…

I think what Ophadece is trying to say, and what you have all misunderstood, is that when you change the language and keep the Coptic melody, what you'll find is that the emphasis of the words changes.
The Coptic Melody gives meaning to the words.…
Thanks Anba Bola,
I will check out these links also.
I have to admit, i didnt think everyone else would have difficulty with this issue as me. Its quite surprising.

Also, that doesn't justify you not searching for the answer yourself.

I hate to say this, but I think we need music for the language of the congregation. Using the translation doesn't always work.
I admit, i'm burdened by the need to pray in Coptic also. I don't want this language to die out either.
I guess Ophade…
Guys,
I got the right answer.
Thanks John.. you're a star.
Someone asked me this, and I didnt know the answer. Now I know exactly what this means...
Yes.. John gave the clues to the correct answer.

Thanks Fr. Peter,
There are brilliant sites. I doubt I'd have found them had you not posted them.
Unfortunately, I have to also pay for a mortgage as well, so I was hoping someone who had no mortgage to pay could kindly just answer the questions?…
Hi Fr.
I was hoping if anyone here knew the answers could post them quickly.
I'm sure there's loads of references/explanations on the internet, but I would be concerned if they were protestant or not. Some sites do not specify.
I will try and f…

I think Ioannes is what you need is a nice beer, sit down, relax, and just wait for Christ's second coming.
If He doesn't come, then take up a hobby and wait until He does come. You've done everything you could for other people. You owe it to your…
