Dear Iqbal,
My question is are they considered saints in our church? The link you gave to Sydney Orthodox church shows Adam and Eve in remorse after committing the sin. Having said that, I remember that in one part of the midnight chants we describe…
Dear Elena,
Welcome back; we missed your posts, and I for one missed yours in the introductions section. I agree with Iqbal the icons are so simple and expressive. What surprised me though is that I found an icon for Adam and Eve; does the Romanian …
Dear minagir,
Very formative; thank you very much. Yes I forgot that pronunciation rule of "oi" in Coptic. I would assume that there is also the "h" as is added by the Copts long ago "the eitch breathing (= el tanafos el ha2y)". Thanks again for cle…
Dear all,
With all due respect for all of what you said (I do agree on this historical piece Kirmich gave us, as I heard it from a servant in our church), the thing that still strikes me is that in Koiak actually there are five canticles not just fo…
Dear Shh,
Sins of the flesh are so grave, and they seem (with me) that they are never ending. However, let me reassure you saying some scientific facts: first of all, studies have been carried out stating that every one who falls in these sins, or c…
Dear Tony,
I got your point. Debates are not actually means of changing everyone's views. Rather, they are arguments intended at reaching a correct conclusion, which as you hinted cannot be reached here. I think your last sentence made it clear that…
Dear Amoussa01,
I think I agree with Iqbal saying that what has entered the Coptic church should be Copticised. As well pointed out by minagir also, we did have Greek replies in the liturgy for thousands of years, and they used to be pronounced in s…
Dear Orthodox11,
Yeah, I like the subject of your post now :). Let me ask you though; I understand that tav in Coptic is said to be pronounced as "d", as you pointed out saying "midera" rather than "mitera", but did the kappa use to be pronounced as…
Dear orthodox11,
Well done; so when you do agree with Iqbal, why don't you change the subject of your reply to I barthenos, to stress out the un-aspirated "p" as it is a Coptic word? Or are you so pro-Greek?
Mind you, I may need to take many lessons…
Dear iqbal,
Thanks for supporting my argument.
Dear orthodox11,
It seems you know a lot of Greek; I don't. But I assert that it wasn't an Arabic thing that the "p" changed to a "b". I go by what Fr. Shenouda Maher teaches, which is that the modern …
Dear all,
That is very interesting, what orthodox11 explains. I used to think that we had these hymns long ago, as a means of "thank you" to the Greek for spreading the Gosepl in the Greek language, but it seems as minagir pointed out it was St. Cyr…
Dear all,
Nice views from every one, and very formative, and educational to me. However, as jydeacon pointed out, I find it a bit sad that our Coptic hymns have been "arabicised". It is really hard for me to imagine how the arabs affected us massive…
Dear aripsalin,
OK, I will wait until you PM me. Until then, look after yourself and your spiritual life. God be with you and support you.
God bless you and pray for us a lot
Dear jydeacon,
Thanks for the clarification. If I come across to the verse that I thought made me inclined to have thought so in the first place, I will let you know. I still can't grasp the different degrees of sin though. So please help me with th…
Dear aripsalin,
I still think the best one to open up with in agreement with Anglian is your father of confession. Even though you feel that he got a bit far away from you, doesn't mean he forgot all about you. He might just have been too busy with …
Dear perfectsinner and jydeacon,
I am not sure if I do agree that sins are different; and there are varying degrees for each. However, I might be wrong. Would someone explain this more to me?
Another thing; will the faithful be judged on judgment da…
Dear perfectsinner,
Yes, the first two verses do refer to homosexuality as I understand. I am not very good at interpreting or explaining what the Bible says, but this is what I personally understand. And, yes, you are right; even disobeying our par…
Dear Unworthy1,
As I am working in the field of addiction psychiatry I can assure you that smoking is addictive even more so than is alcohol. Alcohol in moderation doesn't harm; it actually builds. The complete antithesis is smoking. Smoking doesn't…
Dear aripsalin,
I am sure you know this: CONFUSION (about anything in the world) is a very sharp weapon the evil one uses. it tries to get us in circles, and never ending dilemmas because we try to think and depend on our intellectual powers. As mik…
Dear Anglian,
Thank you very much. You cleared up to me what the Church's view on this. So it doesn't matter if the plastic surgery is for only $1, or more. The issue is about vanity and sexual incontinence; not for medical reasons, as Kirmich said.…
Dear all,
I agree with Doubting Thomas; some things are medical conditions, and we have to remedy them; like either long-sightedness, short-sightedness, partial hearing problems ... etc, and also the implants after breasts have been removed like Dou…
Dear mikeforjesus,
Sorry if I confused you more than benefiting you. I will take it in order though.
First, I can't judge or comment on the gyms there as I don't know where you live. By the sound of it, you live in America or one of the Western cou…
Dear mikeforjesus,
Your post is very formative. I really liked it; but there are a few points I would like to comment on. First of all, coca cola, and all the other fizzy cola drinks have got caffeine in them a bit less than cofee and tea. You do ne…
Dear perfectsinner,
Welcome to the forum. I am with Anglian looking forward to you posting loads and loads; won't be long until you become a hero member as well :)
God bless you and pray for us a lot
Dear gregorythesinner,
Sorry for not having read all the views in this thread. But, just to add, scientifically "A ZYGOTE IS ALIVE (AND THEREFORE HAS A SOUL) WHEN A SPERM FERTILIZES AN OVUM.
God bless you and pray for us a lot
Dear Safaa,
Thank you very much for the website; but I am still looking for a .pdf file containing the lyrics of the Christian carols.
Dear john_paul_elia,
The links are wonderful, and collective :). But as I told Safaa above I am looking for files…
Dear Mina,
Same here; but tell me "you still feel the same way; means you still feel like shouting at me again?".
Just joking...
God bless you and pray for us a lot
Dear Mina,
That is the same translation we use, but I think it is flawed (off the top of my head though; I haven't learned Greek anyway). It shouldn't be "one", rather it is "the only one ...".
God bless you and pray for us a lot
